In a little under 2 weeks you will be able to take free 1917 East St Louis race riot tours, view a lovely Art Exhibit, and witness a powerful panel of living descendants of families impacted by the 1917 East St Louis race massacre. 

On Saturday the 21st and Sunday the 22nd beginning at 10 am, you can meet me and Dr. Tandra Taylor at the Casino Queen Parking lot near the metrolink entrance and board a 40 passenger bus for a gripping tour of the 1917 Sacred Sites.

The free tours last about an hour and a half. Then, in the afternoon, there will be programs at the Sunshine Cultural Arts Center.

On Saturday afternoon (the 21st) there will be an art exhibit opening with wine and music. On Sunday afternoon (the 22nd) there will be a panel discussion with descendants of families who survived the 1917 East St. Louis Race Massacre.

These offerings are a way to celebrate Juneteenth and commemorate the attempted pogrom of 1917. 

It is not lost on me that we are in a time when taking note of how our ancestors prevailed in the face of what looked insurmountable odds is more valuable than ever.
