About this event
First, Participants will meet at the East Riverfront MetroLink station PARKING LOT located by the Casino Queen (100 South Front Street East St Louis, IL 62201). While there they can get acquainted with one another, and set intentions for the 1917 East St. Louis Race Riot Tour. Participants will be encouraged to share their reasons for joining the tour with the group. Participants are not required to do so, however. Next participants will climb the Metrolink train platform to view the Mississippi river and engage in a tour/lecture regarding the history of the area and the conditions that led to the massacre.
Afterward participants will board a 15 passenger van and spend an hour and a half visiting the Sacred Sites where atrocities occurred all while hearing the eye witness stories of survivors. Participants will also see areas of cultural, business, and religious interest. The experience will end back at The Casino Queen in Historic East St. Louis, IL., where participants will engage in their final reflection and Q&A.
Items to note:
There will be frequent stops to exit the van and some short walking to get better views of certain sites. Finally, this is an experience for open and culturally interested types. Adults will enjoy this the most. If you are a history buff you will REALLY enjoy this!
