**Dr. Treasure Shields Redmond Appointed as SIUE Chancellor’s Postdoctoral Fellow**

**[Edwardsville, Illinois] – [June 17, 2024]** – Dr. Treasure Shields Redmond, an esteemed poet, professor, and community arts organizer, has been appointed as the SIUE Chancellor’s Postdoctoral Fellow at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE).

Dr. Redmond’s extensive experience and contributions to the fields of poetry and community arts have earned her a reputation as a leading voice in both academic and creative communities. Her work has been instrumental in fostering artistic expression and community engagement, making her a perfect fit for this prestigious fellowship.

In her new role as the Chancellor’s Postdoctoral Fellow, Dr. Redmond will be involved in advanced research, creative projects, and community outreach initiatives that align with SIUE’s mission to promote excellence in education and community development.

**About Dr. Treasure Shields Redmond**

A dual citizen of Meridian, Mississippi and East St. Louis, Illinois, Dr. Treasure Shields Redmond is a published poet, master educator, community arts organizer, and culture keeper. As a teen, she was signed to M.C. Hammer’s label as a hip hop artist and writer. She is the author of chop: a collection of kwansabas for fannie lou hamer (2015). Dr. Redmond is the co-founder of Fannie Lou Hamer House, an artist’s retreat located in Illinois, and is the founder of The Community Archive, a non profit where she teaches communities how to collect their elders’ oral histories. I am constantly telling him about our classmates and their accomplishments; and using all of Meridian as an example that nothing is impossible, when he puts his mind to it.
