On September 16, 2017, from 6pm to 9pm at the Yeyo Arts Collective (2907 S Jefferson Ave, St. Louis, MO 63118), the Black Skillet Funders’ inaugural quarterly dinner happened. We served our favorite African, African-American, Black, and Southern traditional foods to members, artists and the public. Our dinner meal was $10 a plate. Funds were awarded to proposed projects based on a group centered selection process.

Black Artists submitted their proposals and were entered into the running to receive ALL of the proceeds collected that night (minus food costs).

It came off wonderfully and we were able to give a brilliant hip hop artist (Bates) $575. We turned our community into philanthropists for the arts and there’s nowhere to go but up:)

Treasure Shields Redmond (me) and Itshanapa Dail Chambers are the Founders of Black Skillet Funders.
